Gene Autry, Oklahoma

On November 16, 1941, the town of Berwyn, Oklahoma turned out en masse to honor its most distinguished citizen, singing cowboy Gene Autry. The town officially changed its name that day to Gene Autry, Oklahoma, and it remains so to this day. Each September the community throws a birthday bash for its namesake, and year-round you can stop in and visit the Gene Autry museum, housed in the old school building, where you can view thousands of artifacts chronicling the lives of Gene and innumerable other cowboy film stars.

The town of Gene Autry is located in south-central Oklahoma, northeast of Ardmore on highway 53A.
