Bisons of Abilene
The city of Abilene, Texas, is not known to many of us as a center for the creative arts. However, an impulsive day trip there revealed that Abilene's downtown area was at the time generously populated with evidence of a family of artists refusing to take themselves too seriously. There are at least a dozen near-life-sized fiberglass American Bison (or buffaloes, if you prefer) scattered throughout town, and each one is decorated according to its own theme. These include Texas bluebonnets, Hot-Wheels-sized model cars, and artifacts of the state's many wineries.
The city of Abilene is located on Interstate 20 (old US 80), about 150 miles west of Fort Worth.
