Central Avenue, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque's Central Avenue is America's longest main street, at eighteen miles, and it once carried the cross-country traffic of Route 66. In July of 2001, Albuquerque hosted the 75th Anniversay celebration of old Route 66. At that time, thousands of folks from across the world converged on the Duke City in order to pay tribute to America's Main Street through art, literature, and more.

Below is reproduced a vintage postcard depicting Albuquerque's Central Avenue during the heyday of Route 66 travel.

Albuquerque is in central New Mexico, on I-40 (formerly U.S. 66).
