Las Vegas, Nevada

I know what you're probably thinking:  Las Vegas? Too mainstream. But, I bring it up for two reasons.

First, what epitomizes modern culture better than Vegas? It's a cacaphony of lights, sound, hustle, bustle, glitz, glamor, high-brow, low-brow—you name it. Where the casinos are intentionally designed to confuse and disorient, and where the overall experience can be as jarring and disconnected as the latest political soundbite, Hollywood movie trailer, or five-second television commercial.

But what if you couldn't care less? That brings me to the second reason—Las Vegas is a terrific launching pad for other attractions of entirely different character. Within an easy drive of Vegas you'll find Death Valley, Zion National Park, the ghost town of Rhyolite, and Hoover Dam/Lake Mead, just to name a few. So stay in Vegas, but Don't Stay in Vegas!

Las Vegas is situated in the southern tip of Nevada, at the junction of I-15 and US 95.
