Lighthouse Hunting

A somewhat unique and increasingly rare form of architecture in this country is the lighthouse. In 1999 we traveled the coast of Lake Michigan and documented a goodly number of the examples there.

The sentinels we encountered range from the simple and somewhat modern "steel tower" variety, to the more classically charming examples with sizeable grounds and attached living quarters.

While the example shown was found on the shore of Lake Michigan, there are still plenty to be seen on the other Great Lakes and of course on the seacoast as well. Send us an email and tell us about your own lighthouse safari.
