Ghost Town of Rhyolite, Nevada
The American west is filled with ghost towns, concrete evidence of the cycles of boom and bust which have plagued sectors of the economy such as mining over the years. Northwest of Las Vegas, near the California border and Death Valley, is the former mining town of Rhyolite. It includes the remains of several old-west-style buildings, the most prominent and impressive of which is the former bank.
Also nearby is a collection of outdoor art, including what appears to be a ghost with a bicycle. It's a ghost town, remember?
From Las Vegas, take US 95 north. At the town of Beatty, turn west on highway 374.
