See Rock City

Rock City has been a notable tourist attraction since 1932, when after years of development it was first opened to the public by the Carter family. Pictured below is a souvenir brochure copyrighted in 1938 which extols the many virtues of a visit to Rock City. There are many impressive natural features, including Lovers' Leap, Balanced Rock, and the Stone Witch. The center spread is of a panoramic view, from which the visitor can "See Seven States."

Rock City is also known to many roadies for having painted hundreds of roadside barns years ago with the admonition to "See Rock City." Today, bird houses painted in the See Rock City motif are a popular tourist staple.
