Seligman, Arizona

Seligman, Arizona is one of Route 66's most distinctive towns. There are at least two reasons for this. First and foremost is the presence of the Delgadillo brothers, Juan and Angel. Angel runs the barber shop in town, and Juan is the proprietor of the Snow Cap Drive-In pictured below. Both of them have been instrumental in keeping the spirit of old Route 66 alive in the area, including the formation of the Route 66 Association of Arizona. [Editor's Note: Juan Delgadillo passed away in the summer of 2004.]

The second reason for Seligman's prominence is its location. Seligman is situated at the eastern end of the longest unbroken stretch of Route 66 still existing. One can leave I-40 near Seligman, heading west, and remain on vintage 66 pavement for many miles, passing through such towns as Hackberry, Kingman, and Oatman on the way to the California border near Topock.
